Guide for authors

Publication rules

In its editorial policy, the journal follows the principles of integrity of publications in scientific journals, corresponding to the provisions of international associations and organizations, including the principles and rules of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), «Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing», guidelines of the Association of Science Editors and Publishers, which set standards for ethical behavior of all parties involved in the publication (authors, journal editors, reviewers, publishers and scientific society). Before submitting your article, please get acquainted with our Ethical Principles in the Publisher’s Activities.

Incoming manuscripts are registered and included in the editorial cycle in case of their compliance with the thematic profile of the journal and the ethical principles of the journal as a whole, and the requirements for the articles set by the editorial Board.

Dear authors, before submitting the manuscript, make sure that the issues of publication ethics, copyright, authorship, text data formats, drawings and links have been properly considered, as well as all the necessary accompanying documents have been prepared.

Novelty and originality of the conducted research.

The submitted manuscript should not be published earlier or considered for publication in another journal.

The republication of materials that are not new is not allowed, including the English translation of an article already published in Russian is not accepted.

Detailed presentation of methods and data: other researchers should be able to repeat your study.

General provisions

1. The journal publishes original, previously unpublished materials in Russian (with a summary in English) and in English.
2. Submission, review, editing, publication of articles in the journal, as well as their placement in open access databases are free of charge.
3. Only original materials that have not been previously published and do not violate the copyrights of other persons are considered. All articles are checked in the "Plagiarism Checker” system. If similar texts of the same author are found in other printed and electronic publications, the article is excluded from the editorial cycle.
4. Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the concept, execution or interpretation of the study. All those who have made a significant contribution (to the concept and design of the study or to the collection, analysis and interpretation of data, actively participated in the preparation of the text of the article or making fundamental changes) should be listed as co-authors. The names of persons who have made a contribution to the preparation of the manuscript that is not sufficient for the recognition of authorship, with their consent, are given in the "Acknowledgements" section, indicating their contribution to the work.
5. The author who submits an article for consideration to the journal on behalf of authors (co-authors), responsible for the manuscript submission process and review (hereinafter –corresponding author). The corresponding author must ensure that all eligible co-authors have been included in the list of authors, and that all of them have read and approved the submitted version of the manuscript. It is necessary to indicate the contribution of each author to the conducted research: Author 1 – research methodology, Author 2-data analysis, Author 3 and Author 4 - conducting experiments. Each author can contribute to several stages of research preparation, and you can assign several roles to each author.
   All co-authors can see the details of the manuscript in the application system, if they are registered in the "Electronic Edition" system. Please note that without the registration, the editorial board may request additional information from the corresponding author, as well as send requests to all co-authors at the specified email addresses.
6. The article submitted for publication must not have been previously published. In accordance with the Preprint and Postprint policy, articles previously posted by authors on personal or public websites that are not related to other publishers are allowed to be considered.
7. The authors are responsible for the selection and accuracy of the given facts, quotations, statistics, proper names, geographical names and other information. The author is fully responsible for the accuracy of the bibliographic information contained in the article.
8. Authors must indicate all sources of funding for the research.
9. Authors are responsible for disclosing any financial or personal relationships that may affect their research. All authors are required to disclose the impact on the results or conclusions presented in the work.
10. In case of errors or inaccuracies in the published paper, the author must immediately notify the editor of the journal or the publisher and cooperate with the editor to correct or retract the article.

List of documents

For the manuscript review by the editorial board of the journal, the authors must submit the following materials and documents to the editorial board of «Journal of Advanced Materials and Technologies»:

1. The text of the article (in Russian or in English), abstract (in Russian and English), list of bibliographic references (in English); figures, photos, tables.

In the case of authorship, all authors must approve the final version of the manuscript before submitting it.

Please read the Journal's Information disclosure and conflict of interests policy. You must disclose any relationships or interests that could directly or indirectly affect your work or make it biased. If there is no conflict of interest, authors must declare this.

2. Information about the author (s) in Russian and English:

- last name, first name, patronymic in full (without abbreviations);

- position held;

- academic title, academic degree;

- place of work (you must provide the official full name);

- organizations (without abbreviations) and the full postal address of the organization(s));

- city, country;

- work phone number;

- email address;

- ORCID (if there is no ORCID number, you must get it by registering on the site https://orcid.org/register).

The format of the document is determined by the regulations of the organization issuing the opinion.

Submission and review of the manuscript

1. The editorial board considers for publication the manuscripts received from the authors to the e-mail address of the journal: amt.journal@yandex.ru, burakova.iv@mail.tstu.ru or with the help of the "Electronic Edition" system. The electronic edition of the «Journal of Advanced Materials and Technologies» is based on the Elpub platform.
   The manuscript received by the editorial board is fixed by the date of receipt, and the editorial board informs the author about it by e-mail.
2. The editorial board starts the article processing only after receiving all the supporting documents.
3. All received materials are subject to mandatory preliminary verification, internal expertise and external review.
4. The manuscript is reviewed within 1 to 3 months of receiving the recommendation of the internal expertise.
5. Registration, preliminary verification and internal expertise of the received manuscript is carried out within a period of no more than 20 days.
6. The executive secretary reviews the manuscript for compliance with the journal profile and compliance with the formal requirements: acceptable volume, structure, availability of keywords and abstract in Russian and English, list of bibliographic references, etc.
7. If the submitted materials do not meet the established requirements, the manuscript is sent for revision to the author.
8. The editorial board does not enter into a meaningful discussion with the authors of scientific articles, correspondence about the methods of writing and formatting, and does not bring the articles to the necessary scientific and methodological level. The editorial board does not provide paid services for the articles formatting in accordance with the established requirements.
9. The editorial board reserves the right to reject articles if the author is unable or unwilling to take into account the recommendations of the editorial board.
10. The executive secretary sends the manuscript that has passed the preliminary review to the editor-in-chief or to a member of the editorial board in charge of the relevant topic for internal expertise.

Internal expertise

1. The internal expertise is carried out within no more than 20 days from the date of receipt of the manuscript, prepared in accordance with the established requirements for the design of published manuscripts.
2. Internal expertise is carried out by the chief editor or a member of the editorial board in charge of the relevant topic.
3. The chief editor or a member of the editorial board who oversees the relevant topic gives a description of the compliance of the manuscript with the requirements for scientific research; recommends the manuscript for publication or refusal of publication; offers a list of possible reviewers with their contacts.
4. After conducting an internal expertise, the chief editor or a member of the editorial board who oversees the relevant topics sends recommendations to the executive secretary.
5. In case of a negative recommendation, the executive secretary informs the author about the rejection of the manuscript.
6. The executive secretary sends the manuscript that has passed the internal expertise to the recommended external reviewers.

Peer review

The review of the manuscript that has passed the preliminary assessment and internal expertise is carried out in accordance with the Reviewing Procedure.

The journal uses double-blind peer review, where the reviewer does not know the authors' names and the authors do not know the reviewer's name. The manuscript is sent to two reviewers for evaluation.

1. The decision on choosing one or another reviewer for the examination of an article is made by the chief editor or deputy chief editor.
2. When submitting materials, authors have the right to indicate the names of their colleagues with whom they have a conflict of interest. The following categories cannot be involved in reviewing the manuscript:

- employees of the organization with which the author is affiliated;

- the author's students and supervisors;

- co-authors of other papers of the author;

- participants in a joint research project (s) with the author;

- other persons who are in competitive, scientific, financial or any other relationships with the authors of the article.

3. Based on the results of scientific reviewing, the executive secretary sends the author copies of reviews with a list of comments and suggestions. The author finalizes the material based on the comments of the reviewers and / or prepares a detailed answer to the reviewers.

Publication of the manuscript

1. The manuscript may be rejected by the decision of the chief editor of the journal:

- based on the results of the preliminary assessment;

- based on the results of an internal expertise;

- based on the results of external review;

- in case of loss of contact with the author for a period of more than 20 calendar days.

2. Upon completion of all phases of the manuscript inspection the Editorial Board holds a meeting to consider the final text of the article, reviews and author's response to reviewers and the decision on publication or rejection of the manuscript. In conflict situations, the decision is made by the chief editor.
3. Within 10 days, the executive secretary notifies the author of the decision of the editorial board to publish the manuscript or sends him a copy of the review and (or) a reasoned refusal.
4. If there are recommendations for the revision of the manuscript, the author is invited to take them into account when preparing a new version. The revision of the article should not take more than 20 days from the date of sending an electronic message to the authors about the need for
   The article sent to the author for revision must be returned in a corrected form together with its original version within 20 days. The revised manuscript must be accompanied by a letter from the authors, containing answers to all comments and explaining all the changes made in the article. Articles that are delayed for a longer period or require re-processing are considered as newly received.
5. If the authors refuse to finalize the materials, they should notify the editorial board about the withdrawal of the article from consideration.
6. The editorial board will be forced to withdraw the manuscript from consideration if the authors do not provide a revised version of the manuscript within the prescribed period from the date of sending the editorial board a message about the results of the review of the manuscript by reviewers with recommendations for revision. In such situations, the authors are notified of the withdrawal of the manuscript from consideration due to the expiration of the deadline for revision.
   A message about the refusal to publish and withdrawal of the manuscript from consideration is sent to the author by e-mail.
7. In case of a positive decision, the article is published in the order of priority, as well as based on the thematic plans and priorities for the next issues and the degree of workload of the editorial portfolio.
8. All approved articles are submitted to the editor and proofreader. Articles layouts prepared for printing are sent to the authors for verification, after which they must be returned to the editorial office within 7 days.
   Manuscripts that are not accepted for publication are not returned.
9. The editorial board does not charge a fee for submitting, reviewing and publishing articles.
10. In the event of signs of plagiarism or data falsification, the editorial board acts in accordance with the recommendations of COPE
11. In the event of proven facts of plagiarism or data falsification, the article is rejected at any stage of preparation of the issue without the right of new submission.
12. The editorial board reserves the right not to accept for consideration subsequent works from authors who have violated the ethics of scientific publications.

Correction of errors and review of the article

Authors may notice an error — either technical or semantic — after the article has been published in the journal. In such cases, it is important to immediately inform the editorial board of the Journal of Advanced Materials and Technologies, especially if the error may affect the interpretation of the results or reduce the credibility of the study.

The «Journal of Advanced Materials and Technologies» uses the following methods to address these situations: article correction, expressing doubts about an article, and article retraction (retrieval). The journal follows the guidelines of COPE and the recommendations of the ANRI Ethics Council for Scientific Publications.

A Corrigendum should be prepared by the authors if it is necessary to correct an error, omission, or provide missing information that does not affect the integrity, scientific significance, or conclusions of the article. The correction is linked to the original article on the journal's website, and a new version of the PDF file is published with a corresponding note on the article page and within the file.

Additional peer review may be conducted to verify the proposed corrections. The editor-in-chief or deputy editor-in-chief:

- determines the most appropriate mechanism for making corrections and, if necessary, coordinates the decision with the editorial board;

- has the right to seek advice from the ANRI Ethics Council to ensure compliance with the principles of scientific integrity and publishing ethics.

If an error is found that distorts the results of a study and affects its integrity, the article may be retracted (withdrawn). Each case of error detection is considered on a case-by-case basis and may be a result of a good-faith mistake rather than a deliberate violation of the rules. The editorial board views retraction not as a means of discrediting the authors, but as a way to ensure that scientific communication remains transparent and knowledge remains accurate. Retraction of an article is performed when it is not possible to use other mechanisms to correct the published information.

Authors who wish to retract an article should send a letter to the editorial office stating the reasons for the retraction (errors in the data, misuse of other people's materials, etc.). If approved by the editorial office, the retraction will be carried out in accordance with the COPE guidelines and the recommendations of the ANRI Ethics Council.

When a request is received from a third party, the editorial board conducts an examination. The journal ensures transparency in the article withdrawal process by notifying the authors and providing them with the rationale for the retraction. The editorial board requests explanations from the authors regarding each point of the examination. The authors have the right to agree with the withdrawal or provide detailed arguments against it. If the authors disagree with the article withdrawal, the editorial board has the authority to retract the article without their consent, as they are responsible for the accuracy of the journal's content.

A retracted article is marked with the corresponding label "retracted". The same label is placed in the issue content, and the publication page includes information about the reasons for the retraction.

Information about the retraction of an article is submitted to the Council on the Ethics of Scientific Publications, the National Electronic Library (eLibrary.ru), and the indexing databases of scientific data.

If the author(s) of the retracted article is found to have engaged in unethical behavior, such as falsification and/or fabrication of data, deliberate violation of the ethics of scientific publications, including plagiarism, this may result in the refusal to publish any further works by that author.

Requirements to the Manuscripts

General rules

The manuscript and accompanying documents must be submitted through the electronic editorial system on the journal's website or via email to the editorial office: amt.journal@yandex.ru, burakova.iv@mail.tstu.ru.

Template

To reduce time spent on the formatting of an article according to the journal requirements, we recommend to use a template. The template complies with accepted standards for the provision of manuscripts. Nevertheless, we recommend you to get acquainted with the publication rules and the rules for preparing the manuscript, as they contain a more complete description of the rules and requirements.

Types of publications

The main types of articles:

Original Paper - a detailed format for presenting scientific research. Short communications about important preliminary results of particular scientific value can only be reviewed with the consent of the editor.

Review - systematization and critical generalization of information about any research topic, including the highlighting of new directions in the development of a specific area of knowledge, a review of promising ideas and discussions.

Article language

The article can be submitted in Russian or in English.

Article in Russian

Information about authors and affiliations of authors, abstract, keywords must be submitted in Russian and English. References are presented in English (Vancouver Style).  Figure captions, titles and structural elements of tables are presented in Russian and English.

Articles submitted to the editorial office in Russian (the main text of the article) are translated into English. Translation services for authors are free.

Article formatting

Manuscripts should be 1.5-line spaced (without increased spacing before and after paragraphs) and use Times New Roman; 14-point font, (article title - 16-point font). All margins should be set at 2.0 cm, justified alignment. The main text is typed with a paragraph indent of 1.25 cm; headings, abstract and keywords - no indentation.  All pages must be numbered consecutively.

Manuscript volume

The recommended size of the manuscript (including spaces and all elements of the publishing design) is from 35 to 50 thousand symbols, including:

for original articles - 18-23 pages;

for review articles - up to 25 pages.

The number of pages is approximate, as it depends on the amount of illustrative and tabular material. First of all, you should pay attention to the number of symbols: 1 conventional page is equal to 1800 symbols (with spaces).

Excess volume or its reduction up to 20% is allowed by prior agreement with the editorial board of the journal. The volume of figures should not exceed 1/4 of the article volume.

Scheme of a scientific article

In accordance with the rules that take into account the requirements of international citation systems, information about authors and affiliations of authors, abstract, keywords must be submitted in Russian and English.

Requirements for the text of the article

Article structure

The structure of the full text of the manuscript (in Russian or English), dedicated to the description of the results of original research should correspond to the structure of IMRAD and contain sections: introduction (justification), purpose, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions / conclusion. If necessary, the heading can be expanded.

For review articles, the following structure is adopted: Introduction, Results and Discussion, Conclusions. We recommend that you also include a strategy for information retrieval in bibliographic databases, which is determined by the purpose and type of the review being carried out: a traditional review (critical, preliminary, updating, expert) or a systematic review. If the article was prepared in the format of a systematic literature review, then it is advisable to also describe the criteria for the inclusion and exclusion of a particular source within the stated topic.

It is important to highlight and delineate unresolved problems. It is advisable to consider at least 20-30 sources and compare the views of the authors, paying special attention to controversial and diverging hypotheses. Some of the sources should be in English. For review articles, the number of sources should be increased.

Results and Discussion

This section includes the analysis of the results obtained, their interpretation, comparison with the results of other authors. The results of the research should be presented clearly and concisely, but at the same time contain sufficient information to evaluate the conclusions reached. It is important to discuss the results obtained in the broadest possible context: how they can be interpreted within the existing scientific paradigm, how they can be interpreted in the future research perspective, how problems and limitations were identified in the framework of the research performed. This section should help the reader assess the methodological pros and cons of the study.

Conclusions

The results of the scientific research are briefly summarized. Conclusions should logically correspond to the tasks set at the beginning of the article. In the conclusion, generalizations are made, the significance of the work done is emphasized. Recommendations are also provided and possible directions for further research are indicated.

Supplementary Material (при наличии)

The editors recommend the authors to openly deposit the original data, i.e. provide access to complete sets of experimental data so that you can reproduce your results. The data accessibility statement details where data can be found to support reported results and includes links to publicly available data archives. Placing a statement is a recommendation, but not a mandatory requirement of the editors. If desired, you can place this information at the end of the main text of your manuscript as follows:

The data presented in this study is publicly available at [repository name] at [doi / URL].

The data is contained in the article or additional material posted at [doi / URL].

This data is not publicly available due to [insert reason here] and is available upon request of the respective author.

Please note that initial data may be requested for submission to the editorial board or reviewers.

References

The journal adopted the Vancouver citation style. For more information, see the References section.

You should cite primarily original sources from scientific journals included in global citation indices. It is advisable to use at least 20-30 sources, of which over the past 10 years - at least 60%, over the past 3 years - at least 30%, self-citation - no more than 15%. According to the requirements of the journal, the absence of a solution to this goal in the world literature should be confirmed, and therefore the references should contain not only national, but also foreign publications. The recommended volume is at least half of the total number of sources in the list of references.

Links to unpublished sources are not allowed.

Not recommended references to textbooks, teaching aids, lecture notes, other educational literature, as well as to dissertation abstracts and dissertations texts.

It is not allowed to format the list of sources according to GOST, as the journal adopted the Vancouver citation style.

The numbering of records in the article list is continuous (regardless of the source language). Sources are numbered in the order they appear in the text. The number of the source used in the cite list is put in square brackets. If there are several link objects, then they are combined into one complex link. In this case, the referenced objects are listed separated by semicolons. Examples of formatting links to a source in the text: [15]; [15-23]; [1; 15; 34].

Additional article elements

Figures and tables

All figures, diagrams and tables should be inserted in the main text next to their first quotation and should be numbered according to their number of occurrence in Arabic numerals (Figure 1, Scheme 1, Figure 2, Scheme 2, Table 1, etc.) ... Additionally, figures are submitted as separate files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Each file is named by the surname of the first author and the figure number (* Ivanov_Figure 1).

The figure must be clear and have a caption in Russian and English. The explanation of figures and photographs in the text and captions to them must correspond to the content of the figures. If one figure has several parts, then in the figure caption they are denoted by Latin letters in brackets: (a), (b), etc. All inscriptions directly on the figures are given in English (including designations on the axes graphs, etc.). If such information is present, it must be part of the graphic, i.e. should not be inserted as a text box in the Word editor.

For previously published illustrations, you must indicate the original source and, if necessary, provide written permission for reproduction from their author (owner) (for more details, see the Copyright section). Manipulations with images that may lead to incorrect interpretation of the study results are unacceptable. Confirmation of the fact of manipulation of the specified data may result in refusal to publish the article (before publication), correction or retraction of the article (after publication).

Each table must have a title in Russian and English. All columns of the table must have an explanatory heading in Russian and English. To make it easier to copy and edit large tables, you can use smaller fonts, but not less than 8-point font.

Units of measurement

The paper should use the international system of units SI (Système international d'unités, SI). All units must be converted according to the specified format. More information can be found in the SI Brochure: The International System of Units (SI), on the website of the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (Bureau International des Poidset Mesures, BIPM).

When naming substances, use the IUPAC rules (International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, IUPAC). You can get more detailed information on the website of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry.

Formulas

Formulas are numbered right-aligned. All formulas must be numbered. Formulas are drawn up in the editor MS Equation or MathType.  It is inadmissible to use automatic numbering of formulas and cross-references to formulas or positions in the list of references in the text of the article. The reference to equations is given by their number (equation (2), etc. in Russian, Eq. (1) in English).

Abbreviations

One should confine oneself to the generally accepted abbreviations (GOST 7.12–93 for Russian and GOST 7.11–78 for foreign European languages), avoiding new ones without sufficient grounds. Abbreviations should be defined in brackets when they first appear in the main text of the article and be used consistently thereafter, remaining unchanged throughout the text. The use of abbreviations in the title of the article or in the abstract is unacceptable.

Transliteration

When transliterating, it is recommended to use the BGN / PCGN standard (United States Board on Geographic Names/Permanent Committee on Geographical Names for British Official Use). 

Foreign names

When using foreign names, surnames, names of educational institutions and other names, their original description (in the original language) must be given in brackets. When using new or rarely used terms and concepts, it is advisable to indicate their variants of translation into English, as well as provide a list of publications in English that use the specified terminology. You can place this information either at the end of the manuscript (after all the required elements), or prepare a separate document "Information for a translator" in a form convenient for you (file name * Last name of the first author_For translator).

References

The correct description of References not only demonstrates the quality level of the research, but also guarantees that the cited publication will be taken into account when evaluating the scientific activities of its authors. International indexing databases transform all submitted links into a single structure. In this regard, strict requirements for unification and standardization are imposed on this block of a scientific article.

It has become a common practice to use bibliographic programs (Reference management software).

The journal excepted an adapted version of the Vancouver style of citation, which is supported by the specified software and is one of the standards recognized by international databases.

The editors ask to pay attention to the following:

- it is not necessary to indicate the publication date for journal articles (leave only the year);

- the title of the journal (conference proceedings, books) must be in italics;

- titles of articles (chapters in a book) are not italicized;

- if there are more than four authors, the first four authors are listed, followed by "et al." (Anasori B, Dahlqvist M, Halim J, Moon EJ, et al.).

References rules in Russian have been prepared in accordance with the recommendations of the Association of Science Editors and Publishers (ASEP), which can be found in the journal “Science Editor and Publisher”:

The editors ask the authors to pay special attention to the placement of the DOI identifier (if any), as well as to its relevance and correct presentation.

Vancouver Citation Style

Vancouver Citation Style - consistent numerical style: references are numbered as they are cited in the text; links in the text are typed in square brackets [15]; [15-23]; [1; 15; 34]. Sources in the list of references are numbered in the order of their mentioning in the text, and not alphabetically:

Rules for Russian-language references

Submission of References in Russian raises a number of questions and is especially difficult. Incorrect presentation of the specified information can lead to a significant distortion of statistics on citation of publications.

If the cited article has a DOI, it should be indicated.

If there is no DOI, citation in the International Scientific Database (ISD) is established by the name of the first author and the output of the article (title of the journal, year, volume, number, pages). Mismatching at least one letter or number in these elements leads to the loss of the link.

The editors ask the authors to pay attention to the following rules:

1. Article titles are translated into English.
2. The titles of the journals are transliterated, but not translated (if the journal does not officially use a parallel English title, the information is checked on the website of the publication).
3. Authors' surnames are transliterated according to the BGN Transliteration Standard.
4. If сities have English spelling they should be given in English (Moscow, etc.).
5. It is unacceptable to include only the translated title of the conference, as this will complicate the search for the necessary material and may lead to the loss of the link.
6. At the end of the bibliographic description with the translation of the title of the article, an indication of the language of the article is given (In Russ.).
7. References design rules apply to sources in any languages: articles in Ukrainian, Bulgarian, other Cyrillic languages, should be formatted in the same way as in Russian (In Russ., In Ukr., etc.).
8. Square brackets are not used when it is necessary to provide transliterated and translated versions of the name. We recommend using the = sign.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

1. The manuscripts are accepted if has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere.

2. Internet links are provided as a complete URL. 

3. The document is in *.doc, *.docx, or *.rtf format.

4. Text should be typed with an interval of one and a half line spacing (without an increased spacing before and after paragraphs); font Times New Roman, 14 pt (article title – 16 pt). All margins should be set at 2.0 cm. The main text is typed with a paragraph indent of 1.25 cm; headings, abstract and keywords – no indentation.  All pages must be numbered consecutively. All images, graphics and tables are placed within the text according to the meaning of the particular part of text  (and not at the end of the document).

5. Text should follow the stylistic and bibliography requirements as stated in «Author Guidelines».
